About the Artwork

Vesuvio (Vesuvius), a piece from Remoi’s Abstract Collection, celebrates the majesty and latent threat of one of the world’s most famous volcanoes. Here too, the scene is dominated by a vibrant and textural yellow, acting as a source of warm and persistent light. The signature irregular, jagged edges of the collection define the painted matter as a freshly cooled lava flow, suspended above the underlying metallic surface.

The heart of the painting is etched with a system of black and white marks reminiscent of a seismograph or a map of underground tensions. Two accents of intense red, placed almost symmetrically, evoke hotspots of energy or embers ready to flare up. A long horizontal line runs through the composition, establishing a precarious horizon interrupted by gestural spurts and punctiform drips. In Vesuvio, Remoi does not paint the mountain itself but its invisible activity: it is a representation of the silence before the roar, of a stasis charged with both destructive and creative potential.
